The most important parenting skill: Manage yourself.”
– Dr. Laura Markham
Parenting is hard! It doesn’t come with an instruction manual. Don’t you wish it did? Every child is different. What works well with one child may not work well or at all with another. I believe one of the most important secrets to parenting successfully is making sure you are managing yourself well first. This means being aware of your own parenting triggers (we all have them), managing your own stuff the best you can, and keeping your cup full. When you do these things, it makes parenting less stressful.
Together we will talk about what you are already doing and develop a plan together. I will teach you new skills, give you a chance to practice them, and check in with you to see how things are going. If this sounds like something you are ready to explore, let’s work together to get those results you want.
**Please note, parent coaching is not provided for court mandated cases or families involved in custody hearings, custody/access disputes, visitation, or divorce proceedings. These matters are not within our scope of practice. I will be happy to provide you with a list of referrals that can help you if needed.**
You may benefit from some parenting sessions / parenting coaching if:
- You want to get along better with your kid(s)
- You want a more peaceful household
- You want to reconnect with your kid(s)
- You want to find more enjoyable ways to connect with your family
- You want to explore new parenting strategies that get results
What is the difference between a parenting session and parent coaching?
A parenting session is provided if I am treating your child for therapy. This means we can schedule times outside of your child’s regularly scheduled sessions, or meet at the beginning of your child’s session, to focus on parenting. We will work this into your child’s treatment plan.
A parent coaching session is provided if you decide that you do not want to bring your child in for therapy but feel like you could benefit from individualized sessions with me. Please note that parent coaching is the the same service as couples/marital counseling. I do not provide couples/marital counseling.
